If you come from abroad and wish to settle in Belgium (stay of over 3 months) :

Description :

WORKERS

EU waged worker (except for Romanians + Bulgarians) + EU self-employed

Please bring the following documents with you:

  • Valid passport or national identity card
  • Employment contract (waged) or certificate from the Central Enterprise Databank (self-employed) (to be provided within 3 months)

Non-EU worker (+ Romanians and Bulgarians)

Please bring the following documents with you:

  • Passport with Visa D
  • Employment contract
  • Work permit
  • 4 recent passport photos per person (face-on, on a white background, format H 4.5 cm x L 3.5 cm) 

Pensioners and annuitants from an EU country, workers from an EU country residing in Belgium but working outside Belgium
  
Please bring the following documents with you:

  • Valid passport or national identity card
  • Proofs of income
  • Proof of registration with a health insurance body (European medical insurance card)
  • 4 recent passport photos per person (face-on, on a white background, format H 4.5 cm x L 3.5 cm) 

STUDENTS

Students from an EU member state

Please bring the following documents with you:

  • Valid passport or national identity card
  • Certificate of permanent enrolment
  • Certificate of undertaking or grant certificate if necessary, or sworn declaration of livelihood
  • Proof of health insurance (European health insurance card) 
  • 4 recent passport photos per person (face-on, on a white background, format H 4.5 cm x L 3.5 cm)

Non-EU students

Please bring the following documents with you:

  • Passport with Visa D
  • Certificate of permanent enrolment
  • Certificate of undertaking or proof of grant (a copy is valid)
  • 4 recent passport photos per person (face-on, on a white background, format H 4.5 cm x L 3.5 cm)

Students from an EU neighbouring country (Appendix 33), students from an EU member state and students from a non-EU country residing in an EU neighbouring country

Please bring the following documents with you:

  • Valid passport or national identity card
  • Certificate of permanent enrolment
  • 4 recent passport photos per person (face-on, on a white background, format H 4.5 cm x L 3.5 cm)

(Appendix 33 is valid for the current academic year)

FAMILY REUNIFICATION

1. Family reunification with an inhabitant of Schaerbeek who is a citizen of an EU member state (Article 40) (Law of 15/12/1980)

If Visa D (B20):

  • passport
  • 1 photo
  • Document proving kinship: birth, marriage or partnership certificates (translated and legalised)
  • 4 recent passport photos per person (face-on, on a white background, format H 4.5 cm x L 3.5 cm)


Those falling under Article 40 (no visa):

  • First-degree descendants under 21 years old
  • Dependent first-degree descendants over 21 years old
  • Dependent first-degree ascendants
  • Spouses
  • Dependent first-degree spousal descendents
  • Partnerships equivalent to a marriage or recorded partnership
  • Legal cohabitants

Please bring the following documents with you:

  • Valid passport or national identity card
  • Documents proving kinship: birth, marriage or partnership certificates (translated and legalised)
  • Proofs of household income
  • Proof of dependency for 6 months prior to arrival for dependent descendants and ascendants over 21 years old
  • Proof of long-standing, stable relationship + proof that the partners are over 18 years old
  • 4 recent passport photos per person (face-on, on a white background, format H 4.5 cm x L 3.5 cm)


2.  Family reunification with an inhabitant of Schaerbeek who is a citizen of a non-EU country (Article 10) (Law of 15/12/1980)

Those falling under Article 10:

  • Spouses
  • First-degree descendants under 18 years old
  • Partnership equivalent to marriage or recorded partnership
  • Legal cohabitants

If the person holds a Visa D:
    
Please bring the following documents with you:

  • Documents proving kinship: birth, marriage or adoption certificate etc. (translated and legalised)
  • 4 recent passport photos per person (face-on, on a white background, format H 4.5 cm x L 3.5 cm)
  • TIMEFRAME: As quickly as possible (minimum: 1 month)

     

If the person holds a valid Visa C or is visa-exempted:

Please bring the following documents with you:

  • Passport with or without Visa C (where appropriate)
  • Documents proving kinship: birth, marriage or adoption certificate etc. (translated and legalised)
  • Character reference (not for those under 18), legalised and translated
  • Registered lease contract or the property deed for the accommodation serving as primary residence (Registration office: Rue de la Régence / Regentschapsstraat 54, B-1000 Brussels) 
  • Health insurance certificate
  • Ad hoc medical certificate
  • Undertaking engagement and proofs of household income
  • Proof of long-standing nature of relationship (letters, photos, testimonies, etc.)
  • 4 recent passport photos per person (face-on, on a white background, format H 4.5 cm x L 3.5 cm)

TIMEFRAME: As quickly as possible (minimum: 1 month)

PRICE: €14 maximum without residence card

General remarks:

  1. Unless other provisions are made, all certificates from abroad must be legalised by the Belgian Consulate/Embassy using a legalisation stamp.
  2. All documents other than those drafted in French or Dutch will be translated by a sworn translator whose signature must be legalised by the President of the Court of First Instance.
