What do you need to do in order to obtain a Belgian identity card if you are over 12 years old?

Go to the counter, bringing with you:

• your identity card
• a recent passport photo (face-on, on a white background - format H 4.5 cm / L 3.5 cm)
• the notification asking you to come to the administration before the expiry date
• TIMEFRAME: around 4 weeks (during which you can continue to use your previous identity card)
• PRICE: €16

Emergency identity card (4 working days): PRICE: €133
Extreme emergency identity card (3 working days): PRICE: €217

In the event of theft or loss of your identity card

1st step :

• Go to the municipal administration ticket hall, bringing with you 2 passport photos or the police to make a theft or loss declaration.
• The new identity card will be ordered 7 days after the theft or loss declaration, unless you inform the Population department that you have found your identity card.
• Await the notice letter to obtain a new identity card
• TIMEFRAME: around 4 weeks

2nd step :

Go to the Population department's ticket hall, bringing with you:

• the declaration that you have lost your identity card
• a recent passport photo (face-on, on a white background - format H 4.5 cm / L 3.5 cm)
• the notification asking you to come to the administration before the expiry date
• TIMEFRAME: around 4 weeks
• PRICE: €16

3rd step :

Go to the Population department counter to collect your new identity card, bringing with you:

• the theft or loss declaration of your identity card
• the codes you receive by post around 3 weeks after your application for a new card
